SuiteHUD Guides — Tips for NetSuite Power Users

Learn how to get the most out of SuiteHUD's NetSuite browser extension. Walkthroughs and guides for Shortcuts, Field Map, Reporting Packages, File Preview, Transaction Previewer, and SuiteHUD AI.

Shortcuts

SuiteHUD Shortcuts let you open any NetSuite page, saved search, or workflow in a single keystroke — no more clicking through layers of menus.

The Shortcuts panel is a productivity cornerstone of SuiteHUD. Instead of navigating NetSuite's deep menu hierarchy every time you need a record type or saved search, you define a personal library of one-key shortcuts that launch those destinations instantly. Each shortcut is tied to a keyboard key you choose and a destination URL you paste in once — after that, a single press of that key while SuiteHUD is open takes you straight there. Power users typically set up shortcuts for their most-visited transaction types (Sales Orders, Purchase Orders, Customer records), frequently run saved searches, and dashboard pages, cutting navigation time by 80% or more.

How it works

  1. Open the Shortcuts panel

Click the SuiteHUD icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the HUD overlay, then select the Shortcuts tab from the top navigation. The panel shows your current shortcut list (empty on first use).

  2. Add a new shortcut

Click "Add Shortcut" and choose the keyboard key you want to assign (e.g., S for Sales Orders). Then paste the NetSuite URL for the destination page into the URL field. Give the shortcut a display label so you can identify it in the list.

  3. Test the shortcut

With the SuiteHUD overlay visible, press the key you assigned. NetSuite should navigate to the destination immediately. If the page doesn't load, check that the URL is a valid NetSuite path and that SuiteHUD has permission for your NetSuite account.

  4. Edit or delete shortcuts

In the Shortcuts list, hover any entry to reveal the edit (pencil) and delete (trash) icons. Edit to change the URL or label; delete to remove the shortcut entirely. Changes take effect immediately.

  5. Organize with labels

Use clear, short labels like "SO — Sales Orders" or "PS — Pending Fulfillment" so your shortcut list stays readable. You can reorder shortcuts by dragging them within the list.

Tips & best practices

  • Use single-letter keys for your top three or four daily destinations to minimize context-switching.
  • Saved search URLs work perfectly as shortcut targets — just copy the URL from the browser after running a search.
  • Shortcuts sync across your browser sessions, so they follow you if you use multiple machines with the same Chrome profile.

File Viewer

SuiteHUD's File Viewer lets you preview attachments stored in the NetSuite File Cabinet without leaving the current record — no extra tabs, no waiting for downloads.

The File Viewer panel surfaces the NetSuite File Cabinet directly inside the SuiteHUD overlay. When you are working on a vendor bill, sales order, or any other record that has attached files, you can open File Viewer to browse and preview those documents in-place. PDFs, images, and common document formats render inline so you can cross-reference them while editing the underlying record. This eliminates the common workflow of opening a separate tab, navigating to the File Cabinet, downloading the file, and then returning to the record — a sequence that breaks focus and costs several minutes per lookup across a busy day.

How it works

  1. Open File Viewer

On any NetSuite record page, open the SuiteHUD overlay and click the File Viewer tab. SuiteHUD reads the record context and automatically lists all files attached to the current record.

  2. Browse the file list

The left pane shows file names, types, and upload dates. Click any file to load its preview in the right pane. You can sort the list by name or date using the column headers.

  3. Preview files inline

PDFs render in an inline viewer with page navigation. Images display at full resolution with a zoom toggle. For file types that cannot be previewed (such as .xls or .zip), a download button appears instead.

  4. Navigate to parent folders

Use the breadcrumb path above the file list to move up the File Cabinet folder hierarchy. This lets you browse adjacent folders without leaving the overlay.

  5. Download or copy file links

Right-click any file in the list to access download and copy-link options. The copy-link option copies the internal NetSuite file URL to your clipboard so you can paste it into emails or other records.

Tips & best practices

  • File Viewer is especially useful on Vendor Bills and Purchase Orders where attached invoices need to be compared against line items on the NetSuite record.
  • If a record has many attachments, type in the search box above the file list to filter by filename.

Report Packages

Report Packages bundle multiple NetSuite saved searches into one-click exports, so you can assemble recurring reporting sets in seconds instead of running them one at a time.

Every finance or operations team has a set of reports they pull on a regular cadence — month-end closes, weekly pipeline reviews, inventory snapshots. In standard NetSuite you run each saved search individually, wait for results, export to CSV, and repeat. Report Packages in SuiteHUD let you group any number of saved searches into a named package and export them all at once. Each package run produces a ZIP archive (or a multi-sheet spreadsheet, depending on your export setting) containing all the search results together, timestamped and labeled. You can schedule packages or trigger them manually — either way the bundled output is ready in a fraction of the time the manual process would take.

How it works

  1. Create a Report Package

In the SuiteHUD overlay, navigate to the Report Packages tab and click "New Package". Give the package a descriptive name (e.g., "Month-End Finance Pack") and choose your preferred export format — ZIP of CSVs or a combined spreadsheet.

  2. Add saved searches to the package

Click "Add Search" and paste the NetSuite URL or internal ID of each saved search you want to include. Label each entry so the output files are easy to identify. Repeat until all desired searches are in the package.

  3. Set column and filter overrides (optional)

For each search in the package, you can override date filters or specific criteria so a single package definition works across different periods without manual edits. Use the filter override fields to parameterize dates like "last full month" dynamically.

  4. Run the package

Click "Run Package" and SuiteHUD will execute each saved search in sequence, collect the results, and compile the export. A progress indicator shows which search is running. When finished, a download button appears for the complete archive.

  5. Schedule recurring runs (Pro)

Pro subscribers can schedule a package to run automatically on a daily, weekly, or monthly cadence. Configure the schedule in the package settings and choose whether the output is emailed or stored to a File Cabinet folder.

Tips & best practices

  • Order searches in the package from broadest to most specific so the archive is easy to navigate top-to-bottom.
  • Use descriptive search labels — they become the file names in the exported archive.
  • If a search takes a long time, move it last in the package so faster reports are available first.

Live View

Live View streams real-time NetSuite data directly into the SuiteHUD HUD overlay — see open orders, inventory levels, or KPIs update live without refreshing any page.

Live View turns SuiteHUD into a persistent dashboard that sits on top of your NetSuite session. Rather than navigating to dashboards or running saved searches manually, you configure one or more Live View widgets — each pointing at a saved search, KPI metric, or record count — and they refresh automatically at an interval you set. This is particularly valuable for operations staff who monitor queues (fulfillment hold counts, approval inbox length) or for managers keeping an eye on daily sales totals. Because Live View widgets use your existing NetSuite saved searches as data sources, there is no separate data modeling required — if you can see it in a search, you can surface it in Live View.

How it works

  1. Open Live View

Click the Live View tab in the SuiteHUD overlay. On first open you will see an empty widget grid with an "Add Widget" button.

  2. Add a widget

Click "Add Widget" and select the widget type: Counter (shows a single row count), Table (shows search results as a mini table), or Metric (shows a summed or averaged numeric column). Paste the saved search URL or ID that powers the widget.

  3. Configure refresh interval

Set how often the widget data should refresh — options typically range from 30 seconds to 15 minutes. More frequent refreshes are useful for live queues; longer intervals suit daily KPIs.

  4. Arrange and resize widgets

Drag widgets to reorder them in the grid. Some widget types support resizing by dragging their bottom-right corner. Lay out the dashboard to match how you scan the numbers during your day.

  5. Enable notifications (optional)

For Counter widgets, you can set a threshold so that SuiteHUD triggers a browser notification when the count exceeds (or drops below) a value you specify. Useful for alerting on escalated support tickets or stalled approvals.

Tips & best practices

  • Saved searches with aggressive filters run faster and reduce load on your NetSuite environment — keep widget queries focused.
  • Group related widgets (e.g., all fulfillment KPIs) on the left side so you can check them at a glance without scanning the whole dashboard.

Insights

Insights surfaces pattern analysis and anomaly detection across your NetSuite data — highlighting trends, outliers, and opportunities without writing a single SuiteQL query.

Insights is SuiteHUD's analysis layer. Where Live View shows you the current state of data in real time, Insights looks across time to surface changes: revenue trending up or down week-over-week, vendors with unusual invoice volumes, customers whose order frequency has dropped. The feature works by running a set of pre-built analytical templates against your NetSuite data — you choose which templates to activate, configure the data scope (entity type, date range, subsidiaries), and Insights produces a readable summary with the key numbers and a plain-language interpretation. Analysts who previously spent an hour building comparison pivot tables can get the same signal in a few seconds.

How it works

  1. Navigate to Insights

Open the SuiteHUD overlay and click the Insights tab. A list of available analytical templates is displayed, organized by category (Sales, Operations, Finance, Vendors).

  2. Activate a template

Click any template to open its configuration panel. Choose the date range for analysis (e.g., last 30 days vs. prior 30 days), the subsidiary or department scope, and any entity filters. Then click "Run Insight".

  3. Read the insight summary

Insights produces a card with the key metric, a comparison against the baseline period, a percent change, and a plain-language sentence interpreting the result (e.g., "Invoice volume from Vendor X is up 42% compared to last month"). Color coding highlights favorable vs. unfavorable changes.

  4. Drill into supporting data

Each insight card has a "View Detail" link that opens the underlying saved search pre-filtered to the anomalous segment. This lets you inspect the individual records driving the pattern.

  5. Pin insights to your dashboard

Click the pin icon on any insight card to add it to your Insights dashboard, where it will re-run automatically on the configured schedule alongside your Live View widgets.

Tips & best practices

  • Start with the Sales Trend and Vendor Volume templates — they cover the widest surface area for most businesses.
  • Narrow the date range for more signal-to-noise; a 7-day vs. prior 7-day comparison reveals faster-moving issues than a 90-day window.

Page-In-Page

Page-In-Page embeds a second NetSuite record directly inside the SuiteHUD overlay while you keep the primary record open — essential for cross-reference workflows without tab-switching.

One of the most common time sinks in NetSuite is needing to look at two records simultaneously — a Purchase Order and its related Vendor record, a Sales Order and the customer's payment history, a Journal Entry and the Bill it closes. Standard NetSuite requires opening a second browser tab, which breaks your context and doubles the navigation overhead. Page-In-Page solves this by embedding a full, interactive NetSuite record page inside the SuiteHUD overlay panel, positioned alongside your primary record. You can scroll, edit, and navigate the embedded record independently while your primary page stays loaded and unchanged underneath.

How it works

  1. Open Page-In-Page

From any NetSuite record, open the SuiteHUD overlay and click the Page-In-Page tab. An empty panel with a URL input appears.

  2. Enter the secondary record URL

Paste the full NetSuite URL of the record you want to view alongside the current page. This can be any NetSuite record type — a vendor, customer, transaction, or even a saved search result set. Click "Load".

  3. Work in both records simultaneously

The secondary record loads inside the overlay. You can scroll, click into fields, and interact with it just as you would in a full tab. Your primary record remains loaded beneath the overlay.

  4. Navigate within the embedded page

Clicking links within the embedded record navigates the embed itself, not the main window. Use the back arrow in the Page-In-Page toolbar to go back within the embedded history.

  5. Resize the overlay

Drag the left edge of the SuiteHUD overlay to adjust its width. For data-heavy cross-references, a wider overlay gives the embedded record more room to render its columns and sublists.

Tips & best practices

  • Page-In-Page is most powerful for Vendor Bill → Purchase Order reconciliation: open the bill on the main page, load the PO in the overlay, and compare line items without switching tabs.
  • You can bookmark commonly paired record combinations using Shortcuts — set a shortcut that targets the second record so you can load Page-In-Page with a single keypress.

Field Map / CSV Builder / REST Builder

Field Map gives you a live, searchable map of every NetSuite field on the current record — including internal IDs, field types, and values — so you can build integrations and imports without hunting through documentation.

Building NetSuite integrations, CSV imports, or REST API calls requires knowing the internal field IDs for every field you want to read or write. Normally this means opening NetSuite's Field Reference documentation, searching for your record type, locating the field, and copying the ID — a process repeated dozens of times for a single import template. Field Map eliminates that loop by scanning the current NetSuite record and displaying every field it detects, complete with the field's internal ID, display label, current value, and data type. The CSV Builder and REST Builder sub-features use this field map to generate complete import template headers and API request bodies respectively, turning what used to take hours into a matter of minutes.

How it works

  1. Open Field Map

Navigate to any NetSuite record page, open the SuiteHUD overlay, and click the Field Map tab. SuiteHUD scans the current page and populates a table of all detected fields.

  2. Search and filter fields

Use the search box at the top of the Field Map table to filter by field label or internal ID. This is the fastest way to find a specific field when you know roughly what it is called.

  3. Copy a field's internal ID

Click any field row to expand its detail card. A "Copy ID" button copies the internal field ID (e.g., entity, trandate, custbody_myfield) to your clipboard, ready to paste into an import template or API call.

  4. Build a CSV import template

Click the "CSV Builder" tab within Field Map. Check the box next to each field you want to include in your import, choose whether to include the current record's values as a sample row, then click "Export CSV Template". The resulting file is ready to use as a NetSuite CSV import header row.

  5. Generate a REST API request body

Click the "REST Builder" tab. Select the HTTP method (GET, POST, PATCH), choose fields to include in the request body, and click "Generate". SuiteHUD outputs a JSON snippet with the correct REST endpoint path and a body template you can drop into Postman, SuiteScript, or any REST client.

Tips & best practices

  • Field Map detects both native NetSuite fields and custom fields (prefixed with custbody_, custcol_, custrecord_, etc.).
  • Run Field Map on a Sales Order to quickly build the import template for a bulk order migration — the generated CSV header covers all standard and custom fields at once.
  • Use REST Builder's GET snippet in Postman to prototype a query before writing SuiteScript, saving significant debugging time.
